Here are the minutes from the First Grass Roots Caucus Meeting held on April 1st which was attended by a large number of grass roots organizations as well as Representatives and Senators.
I would like to submit them to the supporters of the TPPD to get your views of the meeting and in particular the mission statement. We are in need of your input and comments. Grassroots Meeting Notes
Representative Looper and Ken Clark – Convened meeting at 1:00 pm -Opening and welcoming remarks.
Introduction of attendees(35 grassroots leaders from all four corners of the state).
Representative Looper briefed attendees on the structure of the meeting and utilizing Roberts Rules of Order and recognizing speakers.
Ken Clark stated there were many other grassroots leaders unable to attend the meeting and that notes and items for consideration should be discussed and distributed to all grassroots and legislators for consideration.
Representative Looper explained the House of Representatives were not in session today, which contributed to the absence of many of the legislators who indicated they wanted to attend. She commented that it is important to discuss policy and the impacts to individuals and families throughout the state, and not to debate the sponsors intentions or motivations.
A moment of silence was recognized for the passing of Representative Wes McKinley’s wife.
Amy Mitchell of Colorado Springs moved a draft of the Mission Statement for a discussion with grassroots leaders and legislators in attendance. Upon a thorough discussion, the following was approved and moved for distribution and consideration for all legislators and grassroots leaders.
“TO SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE COLORADO AND UNITED STATES CONSTITUTIONS, FOCUSED ON BUT NOT LIMITED TO; THE INDIVIDUAL’S RIGHT TO PROPERTY, SELF DETERMINATION, LIMITED GOVERNMETN, SOUND MONETARY AND FISCAL POLICY, THE NATURAL LAW, HONESTY, INTEGRITY AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY”
The Purpose Statement was discussed; the following was approved and moved for distribution and consideration for all legislators and grassroots leaders.
“AN INFORMAL GROUP OF GRASSROOTS MEMBERS AND LEGISLATORS DEDICATED TO PROMOTE AMERICANS’ CALL FOR FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, ADHERENCE TO THE CONSTITUTION AND LIMTED GOVERNMENT IN THE STATE OF COLORADO”.
Representative Holbert and Senator Renfroe spoke on rules related to lobbying. They recommended all attendees refer to the Secretary of State of additional information on the rules of lobbying. Volunteer lobbyists are listed on the General Assembly website located at www.leg.state.co.us. Additional information will be requested by Senator Renfroe and Representative Looper.
Ken Clark and Representative Looper adjourned meeting at approx 3:00 pm.
